The Lowell Brownstone site has been thoughtfully designed to create communal spaces that can be collectively enjoyed by residents. The property has been designed with security in mind, and the site is well-protected without losing a sense of approachability and charm. Centralized to the site is a woonerf; a living street that is flanked by brownstone buildings and that provides shared exterior space, traffic calming, and soft illumination by way of overhead bistro lighting. This heart of the site is a unique approach to resident property access and beautiful shared outdoor space combined in one solution. The woonerf also provides site drainage control through its paver system and will be as functional as it is enjoyable.
Architectural Design + Materials
The architectural design of the Lowell Brownstones is a nod to classic urban brownstone homes with a modern overlay. The residential buildings have been designed with high quality materials: brick on all facades with subtle pilaster detailing, metal details along the mid-section and cornice of each building, and traditional mullion windows with a black finish.
The woonerf features an elegantly designed paver system, complete with integrated linear gardens that feature built-in bench seating. The woonerf is further accented with string bistro lighting for a soft ambience that is welcoming and warm.
Interior Design, Human Health and Spatial Experience
Each Brownstone residence has been designed to provide optimal functionality and wellness for the end user. The interior spaces have been curated with consideration for storage needs, circulation in space, and visual aesthetics for calming and comfort. Health and wellness of the end user has been a critical and driving consideration for all design decisions. To this end, all units will have optimized mechanical system elements for better indoor air quality, there is maximized daylighting through large windows on each level, and the lighting design has been considerate of warmth and mind-boosting effects in all spaces.
